The metrics used in expression of the relevant Key Performance Indicators can be used to drive, inform, and/or constrain the actual engineering and design decisions for a service-oriented application, in terms of its required functional and non-functional properties, choice of technological platform, etc. [PO-JRA-1.2.1] Monitoring of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which are based on process performance metrics, i.e. measure the performance of business processes, is supported by Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) technology. [PO-JRA-1.2.1] Quality aspect of Key Performance Indicators is given by relating the higher-level, business oriented KPI metrics to a set of metrics for the appropriate quality attributes of a service system, typically including quality of user experience, performance, resource usage, complexity, etc. [PO-JRA-1.3.2] Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are  financial and non-financial metrics used to help an organization define and measure progress toward organizational goals. A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a quantifiable metric with a target value that a firm uses to measure performance in terms of meeting its strategic and operational objectives (a.k.a. business goals, critical success factors). By measuring and monitoring operational efficiency, employee performance and innovation, customer satisfaction, as well as financial performance, long term strategies can be linked to short term actions.
