Integration Framework for Service-based Applications (IA-3)

by Maike Uhlig last modified Sep 16, 2009 11:58

Motivation

The joint research activities provide principles for engineering and adaptation (JRA-1) and mechanisms for service infrastructure, composition and coordination, and business process management (JRA-2). Those research efforts need to be performed in a coordinated and integrated effort. Thus, there is a need for a holistic framework that integrates, aligns and coordinates the results of the joint research activities.

Integration Framework

The integration framework is key to enabling the integration of knowledge, resources, and communities defined in the other integrating activities (IAs). Firstly, the integrated framework enacts the content of the convergence knowledge model, taking into account the convergence knowledge model specification of the assets, links, gaps, and directions of the research related to service based applications. Secondly, it will permit to consistently exploit the technological infrastructure provided by the Pan-European virtual lab and enable the usage of its utilities, facilities and services. Finally, the integrated framework will enable the community building defined in the integration activity IA-2, especially concerning the alignment with the industry community, by providing a common uniform framework as a base for exchanges of ideas and resources.

Objectives

The overall objective of this activity is to define, consolidate and validate a coherent, holistic framework for service based applications (SBA) engineering and adaptation. This overall goal will be achieved through realization of the following detailed objectives:

  • Integration Framework: Baseline and Definition (WP-IA-3.1): The activity will integrate the principles for the engineering and adaptation of service based applications, as well as the mechanisms at different functional layers of service based applications, namely that of service infrastructures, service composition and coordination, and business process management. Lastly, it will provide a coherent and holistic view of the principles and the mechanisms for service based applications.
  • Integration Framework: Validation and Personalisation (WP-IA-3.2): The activity will provide an integrated framework that is validated based on industrial case studies. The activity will aim at validating the integrated framework in all its aspects, including the integration of different SBA layers, and the integration of engineering and adaptation principles and methods. The validation, which will be conducted iteratively in different phases, will provide the specification for revisions and improvements of the integrated framework.

Coordination

This activity (IA-3) is coordinated by Center for Scientific and Technological Research.
